If so, our Community Food Worker role could be for you!

About the service

Our Food Education team is passionate about cooking, teaching people about the health benefits of using fresh ingredients and passing on budgeting tips for keeping food bills as low as possible whilst eating well. We also place enormous importance on the social benefits of cooking and sharing a meal with others.

We deliver a range of programmes and accredited training from our in-house cooking classes to accredited REHIS (Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland) courses including food hygiene, food and health, cooking skills and REHIS/Cyrenians Joint Award Good Food Good Health.

About the role

This role will deliver and sustain our existing Community Cook Club programmes, including 3 for young people (age 13+) and a mums group, in our cook school and other community settings across Edinburgh. The aim is to, through the use of food, help participants learn new skills, develop a sense of belonging and self-worth, and build new relationships. 

About you

We are looking for someone who shares our passion for good food. You will understand and appreciate the power that food and eating together has to support people’s mental health and wellbeing.

You should also have:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience of working in a group setting
  • Experience of building trusted relationships
  • The ability to demonstrate our values of compassion, respect, integrity, and innovation in the work that you do.

How we will support you

You’ll be part of a small team, led by a supportive manager. There will be great opportunities for you to learn and develop, while sharing your skills and experiences. You will have access to wider Cyrenians support, including our learning and development programme, and staff wellbeing services.
